The US and other countries should encourage the use of electric and gas scooters in cities to avoid congestion and reduce carbon emissions.
If you travel to any modern European city, you will see countless scooters lined up on every sidewalk, crammed into every entryway, and generally lodged into any crack or crevice in which a car won’t fit.
On the roads you will see them behaving much as pedal bikes here, passing in between lanes, driving on road shoulders and, of course, parking anywhere they aren’t causing an obstruction. Europeans ride scooters pretty much all year, even in relatively cool places like Paris, where 40-year-old professional women will ride to work in a dress and stiletto heels. Read more…

Even in the midst of the financial crisis, the US bike market and in particular the e-Bike business segment is doing very well. Reports say that the number of e-bikes sold in the U.S. is expected to reach a record 170,000 units this year as big retailers get in on this fast growing market.
High gas prices may be one reason for the surge in sales, but with the recent drop in prices it will be interesting to see if this continues. Read more…

The Fairfax policeĀ department’s two new electric scooters, vehicles that look like a cross between a skateboard and a mountain bike will give officers greater mobility and flexibility, said inventor Rob Fruechtenicht, a Fairfax resident.
“It really falls into what Fairfax is all about,” Fruechtenicht told the Fairfax Town Council at its meeting Wednesday. “They’re green, no-emission vehicles. They bring police officers into contact with the public. And they allow police to catch up with cyclists who run stop signs.” Read the complete story

After doing quiet a bit of research on cheap electric scooters, I believe UrbanScooters.com offer some of the best scooter deals online.
They have just announce the release of the new Go-Ped I-Ped Electric Scooter. With a Lithium-Ion batteries and a 1000+ watt motor, I-Peds are the most compact, advanced, and high quality electric scooters on the market. The Lithium-Ion batteries last 10 times longer than sealed-lead-acid batteries (SLA) , weighs half as much at half the size, and are more powerful than the SLA batteries used on most other scooters.
The GoPed I-Ped is ideal for use in urban areas as it is light enough to carry like a briefcase, and virtually silent when in use. The fact that this scooter is electric makes it a great choise for commuters using public transportation as it is allowed on trains and busses. The compact design allows the I-Ped to easily fold and stow away under the seats of trains and busses.
